The WBC MUAYTHAI celebrated its fourth year with a huge convention in Chengu, China from 2nd till 8th of November and the announcement of exciting calendar of events scheduled for 2009.
WBC President Dr Jose Sulaiman told over 400 delegates that the WBC MUAYTHAI had given the Thai national ring sport a highly respected world profile that had clearly differentiated real Muaythai from a plethora of kickboxing codes that used parts of the Muaythai rules and body weapons.
Here are some of the conclusions:
1. The WBC female Muaythai is now a reality!
Jill Diamond has been appointed as the International co-ordination for WBC female Muaythai. Female boxer data is now being gathered for ranking status so that sanctioning of championship can proceed.
As discussed at the convention in Chengdu, and subsequently agreed upon:
- The WBC female Muaythai will have the same weight divisions as the WBC men without the "super" weights.
- The female championships will be fought over five two minutes rounds with two minutes rest periods between all rounds. The time duration of the rounds can be extended to three minutes in "exceptional circumstances" that must be agreed to by both fighters and the promoter.
- The men's championships are fought over five three rounds with two minutes rest periods. The rest period between rounds may be reduced to one minute in "exceptional circumstances" that must be agreed to by both fighters and the promoter.
* The Ram Muaythai pre-fight ritual dance must be performed by both men and women combatants in all championship contests.
* Both men and women will contest championships using the full weapons of Muaythai i.e. fists, elbows, knees, feet and shins in accordance to the official rules and regulations of the WBC MUAYTHAI.
* In the men's divisions the International championships will only be the exclusive domain of of non-Thais and those expat Thais who permanently reside outside of Thailand.
Please inform all fighter connections to email their female boxer data (with low resolution pix) to jdiamond@neverhitalady.com for processing. The female Muaythai boxer data will be handled directly by the ranking committee in Thailand.
2. WBC MUAYTHAI RAKINGS of October 2008
WIPU President & OPBU General Secretary, Mr. Harry Gorian has been appointed as official member of ratings committee in charge for all activities comming from Europe, Euroasia, Middle East and Africa where official computerised OPBU rankings will be considered as official one as well as OPBU champions under full muaythai & Thai boxing rules as qualifications for WBC MT World titles. All OPBU full muaythai titles can be co-sanctioned with WBC MT International titles where ever is possible.
3. WBC boxing
- Jose Sulaiman (MEX) has been again elected for another 4 years mandate as well as General Kovid Bhakdibhumi (THAI) as WBC vice President and WBC MUAYTHAI Chairman, Wilibald Palatin (A) as WBC international secretary (by the way, he is also OPBU President) and Patrick Cusick (Thai) as ABCO and WBC MUAYTHAI secretary.
- Another revolutionary proposal came from WBC President, Mr. Jose Sulaiman to have UNIVERSAL CHAMPION which will be held thru qualification fights (4 man) between WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF World Champions in each weight divission !!!!
